About this activity
GOAL:
To introduce the student to the choices needed to be made when deciding how to string beads and select and attach a clasp.
PROJECTS/TASKS:
(1) Practice Crimping process using cable wire, crimp bead, crimp cover, and horseshoe wire protector
(2) Make a simple bracelet using needle and thread
SKILLS LEARNED:
- learn to differentiate the pros and cons of using various types of clasps and other jewelry findings
- learn how to choose an appropriate type of clasp 
- how to string beads and attach clasp, maintaining tension, using a needle/thread technique and then using a cable wire/crimp bead technique
- how to manage "ease" in your pieces
- how to use crimp beads, and correctly crimp using a traditional crimping pliers
- how to choose beading threads, beading needles and how to wax your thread
- the philosophical and practical differences among Craft, Art and Design
 
SKILL LEVEL REQUIRED:
This course is a beginner, introductory core course.
Additional supplies required (see below); no kit. All supplies can be purchased at class site, or you may bring your own. Cost estimate about $15-$20.
7-8" of size 4mm fire polish round beads (any style or color)
Nymo D thread, black, on bobbin
2- Size 10 beading needles
Bees wax
1 toggle clasp
