Stop At: Belmont Mansion, Acklen Avenue at Belmont Blvd, Nashville, TN 37212-3810

Monday tours only. Built in 1849 as a summer residence, Belmont Mansion is the largest house museum in Tennessee and one of the few nineteenth century homes whose history revolves around the life of a woman, Adelicia Hayes Franklin Acklen Cheatham.

The mansion features the stylings of an Italian villa and was set amidst elaborate gardens. There were numerous outbuildings, including the water tower, which still stands, that provided irrigation for the gardens and supplied water for the fountains. In front of the water tower stood a two-hundred-foot long greenhouse and a conservatory.

Belmont Mansion was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1971.

Built in 1932, Cheekwood is one of the finest examples of the American Country Place Era movement that celebrated the success of the Industrial Revolution with large and imposing homes, formal gardens were grand as well as intricate, and the views from and of the property were untouched except for the splendors of nature.
