About this activity
Visit: Ardastra Gardens, Zoo and Conservation Center, Chippingham Road, Nassau New Providence Island
The Ardastra Gardens, Zoo & Conservation Centre is a peaceful 80 year-old retreat spread over 4 acres of lush tropical gardens just outside of Downtown Nassau. It is a unique combination of a botanical garden, a conservation centre and a boutique zoo that specializes in bird rescue & rehabilitation, education, preservation of history and conservation of natural resources.
Ardastra is home to many native species of plants and animals - including the Bahamas National Tree, the Lignum Vitae; the Bahamas National Flower, the Yellow Elder and the Bahamas National Bird, the beautiful and exotic Caribbean Flamingo. We are well-known for our animal encounters that allow visitors to get "up close "with some of our residents.
We encourage all of our visitors to take a guided tour for a better appreciation of our residents and our property. To maximize enjoyment, we also encourage our guests to schedule their visits around our Signature Showtimes: 10:30am, 1:30pm or 3:30pm.
You can participate in the "Flamingo Experience", a unique show of the glory and antics of these incredible creatures together with an excellent narration of their story. Guests can also hand-feed the colourful and playful South Pacific Lory Parrots and have numerous photographic opportunities during your visit.
While walking the Gardens, friendly and informed staff will answer questions while two-legged feathered friends will freely entertain. Light refreshments are available at the "Parrot Pit Stop". "Toby's Treasures" is filled with gifts/souvenirs so that you can take a piece of Ardastra home with you.

This was a nice change from the usual beach or sightseeing excursions we usually take when we get off of our cruise ship. It wasn’t crowded, and all of the trees gave plenty of good shade. Our young grandsons liked looking at the animals and they thought the flamingos were funny. We were able to go inside the flamingo arena for pictures too. It’s nothing like our large zoos at home, but it was a nice easy relaxing day, and very well priced. It was maybe a 10 minute taxi ride from the cruise port.
It was a very quiet, not over-crowded zoo. The staff was extremely friendly to the point that the zookeeper feeding the animals answered many questions for us while we were there. We saw the flamingo show which was great and we participated in the lorikeet feeding.
A great visit if you like flamingos. The zoo is smaller than you would expect, but they are doing some good conservation work there. Watching the flamingo dance and program was great. Feeding the Lorries was a lot of fun as well. If you have the time, it is a quick visit and they can use the money to help their conservation efforts.
Small, but very nice little Zoo. The flamingos were running around us. The flamingo show was great, we even had the chance to make photos with the kids and the flamingos. No additional hidden costs for photos etc..
The gardens were close to deserted when we arrived and closed early so we had to leave. I wasn't too upset about it because there really wasn't that much to see. The grounds were also kind of messy. We watched a lackluster flamingo show while we were there. If you are really excited about going to zoos, you might like this, otherwise it can definitely be skipped.
Peaceful environment but felt that this is more for kids than adults.
Excellent like the experience.... it was nice to see some of tropical birds and animal....
the staff were helpful and dedicated. the gardens still are rebounding from a past hurricane and storms, I assume. I think they try very hard to make due with the little they have, it not seem too well attended and supported, unfortunately. Nassau in our travels, seemed depressed economy, although the people we came into contact were very hospitable.
