About this activity
When your ship docks in Nassau, meet your friendly tour guide just a few blocks from the wharf and head to your first stop, the Pirate Republic Brewing Company on Woodes Rogers Walk. Channel your inner buccaneer as you throw back your first sample of rum, imagining the days — more than 300 years ago — when rowdy pirates of the Caribbean rambled down these streets, intoxicated on their ‘demon water.’

Following your guide, walk through downtown Nassau to three more local businesses, where you can chat with staff as you enjoy rum cocktails, savory snacks and delectable, boozy treats. Bite into warm conch fritters — a Bahamian specialty — and satisfy your sweet tooth with rum-infused chocolate and a Bahamian dessert made from guava, a tropical fruit.

While you go off the beaten path with your guide, listen to madcap stories about the island’s pirate and rum-running history. Walk by historical buildings, and hear how they once played a role in the profiteering business as storage space for liquor about to be transported across the ocean.

Fittingly, your shore excursion ends at John Watling’s Distillery, located at the Buena Vista Estate. Learn about the rum-making process, from fermentation of sugar cane to aging in white-oak barrels, and hear about the mysteries surrounding 17th-century pirate John Watling, for whom the distillery is named.

Tastings include (subject to change):
• 6 rum tastings
• 2 cocktails
• Bites of Bahamian conch and lobster fritters
• Rum-infused white chocolate
• Caramel truffle shot
• Guava duff (a Bahamian dessert made with fruit wrapped in dough)

Worry-free Shore Excursion:

We will ensure your excursion ends with ample time for you to return to the Nassau port for your ship’s departure. In the extremely unlikely event your ship has departed, we will arrange for transportation to the next port-of-call. If your ship is delayed and you are unable to attend this activity, your money will be refunded. See our terms and conditions for full details.

This was a great tour. Jaime(?) was our guide and did an excellent job. If you don't eat before all the Rum, you will not be walking a straight line. I will do this one again.

Jamie was outstanding - knowledgeable, friendly and courteous. In many respects the history of rum is the history of the Bahamas and Jamie tied it all together very nicely. The perfect way to spend an afternoon in Nassau: touring pubs, a distillery and a wine shop while chatting about pirates and prohibition. Quite entertaining!

This tour was AWESOME! Orchid, our tour guide, was very knowledgeable about Nassau, the Bahamas, and all of the rums we got to enjoy! If you like to experience the places you visit past sitting on a tourist-y beach, this tour is for you. 10/10 would do again.

Orchid was so laid back and smooth... like some of the rum we tasted. I appreciated the history that came with our tasting. I also enjoyed the varied sites - the bar, the home/artist exhibit, the hotel, the chocolate factory and ice cream stops, and of course the distillery. The walking was easily managed no one fell down and it was a great way to experience some of the local culture. ARGH!

Fun alternative for the beach weary. After a little confusion we were able to locate our meeting space and were greeted by the great bar tending staff. Our guide Jason arrived and shared a lot of the history of Nassau and we found his stories informative and fun. The tour starts with 5 shots of various rum followed by a yummy Bahama Mama cocktail from the bar. You are then escorted to a nearby art studio for delicious conch fritters and a rum cupcake. If I had to change one thing about this tour it would be this stop. The art studio is small and not very interesting, I think they could find a more lively place to stop at. After the art studio it is a short walk to the Graycliff Mansion. The mansion has been transformed into a historical resort and is very beautiful. You get to visit their cigar studio as well as their chocolate factory. This stop was the highlight of the trip for us. Next you visit a small shop for some yummy rum raisin gelato and then the tour continues on to John Watling's distillery. Here there is more history and a tour of the distillery. The tour ends in the distillery bar where you sample a final shot and a cocktail called the Rum Dummer. The tour made for a fun day and we really enjoyed ourselves. Only changes that could of made it a five star day would be to make the meeting location a little more prominent and perhaps select another location for the second stop. Our guide Jason had a great personality, good knowledge of the history and made the tour fun. Would recommend this tour to friends and family visiting Nassau.

Did the Rum and Food Walking Tour on Saturday, 5/14/16 with Lindsey as the tour guide. Great experience with a wonderful tour guide. Learned alot of interesting facts as we visited sites off the beaten path. I will look for similar tours on my next vacation. A real treat.

This tour was great. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and friendly and we thoroughly enjoyed our time with her. It was very interesting to hear about things regarding the history of Nassau and the rum industry which we'd have never known about if we hadn't taken the tour. We highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Nassau.
