About this activity
Your day starts with a bus transfer from the kayaking base in Motueka, followed by a quick water-taxi ride to the northern beach of Onetahuti. From there, you'll paddle by kayak with your guide to Tonga Island and its flourishing seal colony. Appreciate the beauty of these sleek mammals while you observe them from a distance in their natural environment. Tides permitting, explore the spectacular Tonga Arches, and head south to Bark Bay.

After lunch (own expense), you have the option to continue kayaking to Anchorage or leave your guide for a 7-mile (12-km) hike to Anchorage, which includes the Falls River swing bridge. Afterward, catch the water taxi back to Marahau and shuttle back to the base in Motueka, where you're free to access the Wi-Fi or a hot shower.

Beautiful trip. Took a water taxi to kayaking. After a quick lesson, had a guided kayak tour for about 2 hours then had lunch on the beach. We changed clothes, then went hiking on our own. The hiking definitely has some inclines, but has really great scenery and is well marked. Lots of shade on the walk, but sunscreen a must for this trip. Also lots of drinking water. You do need to keep a pretty good pace on the walk in order to make it back on time to catch the water taxi back - we ended up taking the 'low tide' route and were really glad we did as I am not sure we would have made it back in time if we had taken the 'high tide'. Granted, we are not the fastest walkers out there so this might not be any kind of issue for someone else.
