About this activity
Early this morning you will be picked up by an English speaking guide and enjoy a brief ride on the Delhi Metro up to Kashmiri Gate. Upon arrival board an auto-rickshaw, also called a tuk-tuk.
Your guide will tell you about the fascinating history of the 1857 Mutiny. You will be visiting historic places in Delhi that tell the story of the Siege of Delhi such as St James Church, which was damaged by shellfire during the Mutiny and the grave, where John Nicholson is buried. Nicholson, a British officer, was best known for his role in the Indian Mutiny, planning and leading the Storming of Delhi. He died due to the wounds he had received during the hostile events.
Then visit the Telegraph Memorial, dedicated to Todd, Bendish and Pilkington, who sounded the alarm by reporting the Delhi mutiny on May 11th. Also see Kashmere Gate, the entrance to the city that was breached during the Siege of Delhi. Finally admire the Mutiny Memorial, a Gothic tower built by the British to commemorate the many, who lost their lives in the Mutiny. For those interested, the British historian and writer Dalrymple in his book The Last Mughal may well have documented the 1857 Mutiny best.
At the end of your tour you will be taken back to your central Delhi hotel.
