Day 1: A day in Varanasi

Stop At: Assi Ghat, Varanasi India
Morning- Flight from Delhi to Varanasi
We will walk through the streets of Varanasi to get a feel for one of the oldest living cities in the world. Street food is also an integral part of the city’s culture. Some of the local delicacies are hot kachoris paans, sweets, lassi and thadai.

Stop At: New Vishwanath Temple, Banaras Hindu University Campus, Varanasi India
Varanasi is a city of a thousand temples. We will visit a temple and it will be a fascinating experience to see 5000 year old traditions alive. Our guide will put in perspective, the role of temple in the society and why it continues to play an important role in the daily lives of Indians.
Duration: 30 minutes

Stop At: Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi 221005 India
After lunch, we will visit Banaras Hindu University, one of India’s most famous university. Established in 1916, Banaras Hindu University is spread over 1300 acres and has 30000 students making it one of the largest universities of Asia.

Stop At: Bharat Kala Bhavan, Varanasi Hindu University Opposit from Institute of Managemet Studies, Varanasi 221005 India
We will next visit the Indian art museum Bharat Kala Bhawan. It has a magnificent collection Buddhist and Hindu sculptures, pictures, manuscripts, Mughal miniatures, paintings, brocade textiles, contemporary art form and bronze statues, Pottery, metal craft, ivory goods, jewelry, terracotta beads and miniature paintings.

Stop At: Banaras Ghats, Varanasi 221002 India
In the evening we will come to the banks of the Ganges, the holiest of all rivers in India. We will witness one of the most spectacular ceremonies. In this grand spectacle, thousands of pilgrims pray to the river goddess. The prayer ceremony includes incense sticks, lamps and fire

Day 2: Sarnath

Stop At: Ghats, Rabindranath Tagore Rd, Pathani Tola, Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh 221001, India
We start the day with a boat ride over the Ganges and get a glimpse of live in this ancient city across its various ghats.
Duration: 1 hour

Stop At: Sarnath Via-Anlabereni, Varanasi 759026 India
We will visit Sarnath, the most famous pilgrimage for Buddhists in India. Lord Buddha gave his first sermon here after attaining enlightenment in the year 528 BC. The great Mauryan Emperor Ashoka built magnificent stupas and monasteries in this area in the 3rd century BC. He also erected a column 15.24 m in height which had four lions and this was later adopted as the national emblem of India.
Duration: 1 hour

Stop At: Dhamek Stupa, Rishipattan Road 13 Km From Varanasi, Varanasi 221007 India
Dhamek Stupa is the most impressive structure here in Sarnath. The Stupa commemorates the first discourse of the Buddha which was on the ‘Wheel of Law’. The wheel reflects the world with its eternal existence due to our desires and cravings.

Stop At: Chaukhandi Stupa, Rishipattan Road, Varanasi 221007 India
We next visit Chaukhandi Stupa a shrine for the relic of Buddha. This Stupa was built during the Gupta period between the 4th to 6th Century to highlight the site where Lord Buddha and his first disciples met traveling from Bodh Gaya to Sarnath. During the time of Akbar, the Mughal Emperor it was modified to its present shape by building the octagonal tower. These modifications were carried out to commemorate the visit of Humayun, the father of Akbar.

Stop At: Mulagandha Kuti Vihar Path Dharmapala Rd, Sarnath, Varanasi 221007 India
Mulagandha Kuti Vihar is a relatively new Buddhist temple. The highlight of this temple is its murals and frescoes. It stands as a contrast to the ruins of ancient Sarnath all around it. An interesting aspect of this temple complex is a Bodhi tree, which is supposedly a descendant of the tree beneath which Lord Buddha achieved enlightenment.
