About this activity
After meeting your guide at the entry gate of Deer Park, situated near the main gate of Hauz Khas Village, your walking tour starts as you head inside the park, listening to stories of Delhi’s past and spotting the deer that give the park its name. Walk around the Hauz Khas reservoir, built as a part of the second city of Delhi by Alauddin Khilji in the 13th century.
Enter the monuments complex, where you'll first see a T-shaped building, made up of a long, colonnaded assembly hall that stretches from the north to the south. Just beside this is the mosque, which would have been the place of prayer for those who lived and worked in the madrasa. Heading to the other monuments, see several pavilions that stand scattered about the gardens. These are mostly tombs, probably containing the remains of teachers of the madrasa, an institute of higher education endowed by Firuz Shah, the ruler of the Sultunate of Delhi in the 14th century. His tomb is the focal point of this complex.
After exploring these historical sites, venture out to the market area of this urban village. You'll pass by a number of food joints that line the street, and see art galleries, antique shops, and designer shops. You can also check out some street art and learn about St+ART Delhi, held in Hauz Khaus Village as part of India’s first month-long street art festival.
At the end of your tour, you are free to stay in the village on your own to shop, eat, or just hang out.
