About this activity
Day 1: Delhi /Jaipur
In the morning, you will be picked up from your hotel in Delhi and driven to Jaipur (about 4-5 hours). The city is steeped in heritage, picturesque with exquisite architecture, and vibrant with heroic lore and romance. Upon arrival, check into your hotel.
In the afternoon, enjoy a guided city tour of Jaipur. Jaipur is a planned city built in 1727 by Sawai Jai Singh, the Hindu Rajput ruler of the kingdom of Amber, later Jaipur. Visit Hawa Mahal, also known as the "Palace of Winds". It was built in 1799 as an extension to the Royal City Palace of Jaipur. It allowed the royal ladies, who at the time strictly observed “pardah”, to be able to watch any processions and activities on the street without being seen by the public. Continue on to the City Palace, with its latticed balconies, tiny windows, cupolas, courtyards and arched entrances. A stop will be made at the UNESCO World Heritage Site - the Jantar Mantar. It is an astronomical observation site built in the early 18th century and used by medieval scholars to study and measure the positions of the stars, sun and planets. At the end of your tour, you will be brought back to your hotel.
Overnight at the: Lemon Tree Premier (Superior)
Day 2: Amber Fort Excursion / Delhi
After breakfast, you will visit the 16th century Amber Fort, a sprawling complex that combines immense fortifications with unexpected architectural and artistic beauty. When you arrive, you will take a 4WD jeep up the steep incline to the front gate. The Fort was built in 1592 by Raja Man Singh of red sandstone and marble. The simple and protective outer walls betray the surprising beauty of the interior rooms. The Amber Fort (Amer Fort in Hindi) has many pavilions and halls of great history. The Diwan-i-Aam (Hall of Public Audience) has a double row of columns, each topped by a capital in the shape of an elephant, and latticed galleries above. You enter through the fabulous Ganesh Pol (gate), decorated with beautiful frescoed arches. The Jai Mandir (Hall of Victory) is noted for its inlaid panels and multi-mirrored ceiling. From here, you can enjoy fine views from the palace ramparts over picturesque Maota Lake below. Later you will be driven back to Delhi.
