Delhi’s Turkman Gate was built in 1658 and derives its name from the grave of Sufi Saint Hazrat Shah Turkman Bayabani, which resides east of the gate. The gates lead off into a maze of narrow lanes that would twist and wind to the Jama Masjid with old-fashioned Havelis adorning the narrow lanes.

Located in Chandni Chowk, the Ajmeri Gate was built on a square base and boasts of high arches. The Ajmeri Gate derives its name from the fact that the road which ran from this gate led to Ajmer in Rajasthan. The gate is surrounded by a park and a madrasa built in 1811 by Nawab Ghaziuddin Bahadur, the son of the first Nizam of Hyderabad.

At the centre of New Delhi stands the 42 m high India Gate, an "Arc-de-Triomphe" like archway in the middle of a crossroad. The memorial bears the names of more than 13,516 British and Indian soldiers killed in the Northwestern Frontier in the Afghan war of 1919.
