At the centre of New Delhi there is 42 meter India Gate statue. an Arc-de-Triomphe-like archway in the middle of a crossroad. It was built as a memorial to the 70,000 India soldiers killed in World War I. The gate was designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens and completed in 1931. The expected length of the visit is 15-20 minutes.
After the India Gate, head towards the Red Fort which was constructed in 1648 by the 5th Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan. It was the residence of the emperor for 200 years. There are many buildings and gardens in the capital city which have been constructed on the basis of the gardens in the red fort. In 2007, Red Fort was declared UNESCO world heritage site.
