Taj Mahal and Agra Tour By Car From Delhi
1 day
About this activity
This private tour will start with hotel pickup in Delhi at 6am. From there you will drive straight to Agra in a chauffeur driven air-conditioned car (204km/3hrs) via the Yamuna Expressway.
At 10am you will arrive at the Mughal city of Agra, and your local guide will take you to visit the UNESCO World Heritage site and Wonder of the World the Taj Mahal. When you get out of the car in Agra, you will first enjoy a tonga (horse carrage) ride from the parking lot to the Taj Mahal and will marvel over the fantastic view.
As you arrive at the Taj Mahal, your guide will teach you about the architecture of the monument and will narrate the building's history. The building, a white marble mausoleum, reveals undying love story of Emperor Shah Jahan and Queen Mumtaz. It’s construction lasted a period of 22 years from 1631 AD to 1653 AD, and around 22,000 people worked on it daily.
After the Taj Mahal, you will see a local traditional art marble demonstration and proceed to 5-Star Hotel ITC Mughal, Jaypee Palace & Trident for a buffet lunch.
At 12pm, after lunch, you will proceed to the Agra Fort, another UNESCO world heritage site. This fort was renovated with red sandstone on the orders of Emperor Akbar, and is surrounded by 21.4 meter high walls and four gates on its four sides.
Quila-i-Akbari, as the Red Fort is also called, also served as the capital to the Mughal sultanate due to its prime location. Your guide will brief you about the Diwan-I-Aam (the hall of public audience used for hearing common public grievances), the Diwan-I-Khas (the hall of private audience), the Sheesh Mahal (a glass palace with tiny mirrors on the wall), the Jasmine Tower and other mosques inside the Agra Fort. It is believed that Shah Jahan was imprisoned and died there as well.
From your guide, you will come to know about the history of this Mughal architectural feat, why it was created and when. You will also enjoy taking pictures and experiencing the Mughal Era of Emperor Akbar. Also, you'll explore the local market of Agra very close to the Taj Mahal.
You will finish your visit to the Agra Fort at 4:30 pm, and from there you will leave for Delhi taking the Yamuna Expressway. On your arrival back in Delhi, you will be transferred to your hotel or airport for your onward journey.

Our Taj Mahal tour was very good and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. As with all of the tours, the factory visits to the inlay shops and jewelry stores should be optional and not part of the itinerary. Although we had no problem communicating with our guide and driver, less experienced travelers may find the English to be a little lacking. Overall, no complaints and the trip was a once in a lifetime experience.
Went to the Taj Mahal yesterday and it was a really great trip. As soon as I booked the trip through Viator, my tour guide Anjum immediately was in contact with me for preparation, details, and questions for the trip. I was a solo female traveler from New York and he made sure I was safe throughout the trip and prepared me for what was going to happen before it happened being that the environment in India is very different from the US... VERY. He speaks English very well, highly educated on Agra (Taj mahal and the area around it) and knew all the perfect photo spots! I didn't even have to ask to take a picture, he just knew when and helped me get the best touristy pictures you could want. I highly recommend him if you need a tour guide. My Chaffeur Ashok was also a pleasant and safe driver being that India traffic is crazy and it was a long trip to Agra from Delhi. Pit stops for tea, snack , and restrooms were no problem. Overall great, memorable, safe trip!
Great personalized service. The driver Ravi was on time and happily answered questions through out the day. Very impressive ability to remain calm during rush hour traffic in Delhi. The tour guide in Agra, Khan, is very knowledgeable and provided advice beyond just that related to the monument and city. Very professional and warm service and I highly recommend this trip.
