About this activity
Day 01 : Delhi / Amritsar ( By Train ) - Wagah Border Excursion
Early morning, you will be met and transferred to the New Delhi Railway Station to board your train for Amritsar by Amritsar Shatabdi Express. Upon arrival in Amritsar, you will be met and transferred to your hotel. In the afternoon, you will head for the Wagah Border between India and Pakistan. You will watch the ceremony that marks the closing of the Indo-Pakistan border gates every evening. This is a must-see event for its sheer drama. Experience the Beating Retreat Ceremony with the ceremonial closing of the gates and the lowering of the flags of India and Pakistan. Watch as the Indian and Pakistani Rangers march towards the gates from their respective sides. After the gates are open, the soldiers salute each other and start lowering their flags. The ceremony reaches a crescendo with the soldiers returning to the border line for the final handshake. The bugle blow marks the end of the ceremony. After the ceremony you will be driven back to Amritsar’s Golden Temple for the evening Sikh Palki Ceremony.

Day 02 : Amritsar Full Day City Tour
Today you will visit the Harmandir Sahib, famously known as the Golden Temple, the most sacred place for Sikhs in the world. The Gurudwara, or Gateway to the Guru, sits in a sacred pool of water, which is believed to wash away pain and grant health and happiness forever. Next, you will go to the historic Jallianwala Bagh. It is the site of a 1919 British massacre of local citizens. The gardens are verdant, well-manicured and blooming with color. Joggers and walkers mingle with the visitors. It’s hard to imagine that this beautiful place once was the scene of such a tragedy. Later, you will enjoy time in the old city bazaar. You will proceed to Qila Ahluwalia and Jalebiwala Chowk - home to some of the most famed jalebi (sweets) shops and other eateries in Amritsar. Admire the food presentations and local delicacies in this part of town. Following, we’ll wander through busy bazaars selling a mix of Fulkari textiles, colorful turbans, hair accessories, antiques, and more. Strolling through, we’ll soon reach the chitta akharas, 250-year-old hostels for spiritual seekers and saints. From there, we’ll head to a local turban shop and you will learn the tricks and techniques for tying a 9 foot turban.
