About this activity

Take an eye-opening look into American history and visit 2 out of 3 prominent plantation homes along the Mississippi riverfront. Take a drive along the Great River Road, which winds along the Mississippi River, where you will visit the Laura, and Oak Alley plantations.

Oak Alley is Louisiana's most photographed plantation, showcasing beautiful Greek revival architecture. The site is famous for having once played host to a Civil War encampment. Stroll a magnificent alley of 300-year-old live oak trees leading to the Mississippi River. After this fascinating journey, enjoy a hassle-free ride back to New Orleans.

Opened to the public for the first time in 262 years, Whitney is the only plantation museum in Louisiana with a focus on slavery. Through museum exhibits, memorial artwork, restored buildings and hundreds of first-person slave narratives, Whitney serves as a site of memory and consciousness that pays homage to all slaves who lived and died here, as well as those who lived elsewhere in the United States.
