Crescent City Tours, which organized this tour, did a great job on travel to and from the Whitney Plantation in Wallace, La. The ride included lots of local information about the area and quite a few funny stories from owner Brian. The tour price includes the admission to the plantation ($23 per adult) and a tour given by someone who works at the plantation. The 90 minute plantation tour is mostly outside in the sun, so consider that when thinking about what you wear and whether you bring those easily affected by the heat. That being said, if you want to see a plantation, chose this one for the interesting perspective. Our plantation tour guide had a masters in Black Studies and was super knowledgeable about the conditions and hardships the slaves on the plantation faced. This tour company's transport is in small groups/vans, although at the plantation you may be joined by others from other tours, or people who decide to drive the hour from New Orleans to visit the plantation. We made terrific time on the way out to the plantation, so Brian (the owner of the company) was able to drive us past the other plantations in the area for photos (including Laura, Oak Alley and St. Joseph's). Depending on the traffic you encounter, I'm not sure you'll get to see all that, so it was definitely a special treat for us. If you'd like to see more than just the Whitney plantation, I think you can book tours with this company where you can definitely see multiple plantations in one day!
