About this activity
Why You Shouldn’t Miss This

The September 11 attacks were one of the most devastating incidents of the last two decades. Nearly 3000 lives were lost, and over 6000 were injured during this calamity. The 9/11 Tribute Museum is a project of the September 11th Families’ Association. It was opened on the 6th of September, 2006, across the street from the World Trade Center site. Presently, however, it has moved to 92 Greenwich Street. The Association aims to unite victims of terrorism through peer groups, representation, and communication. With this in mind, the guided tours are conducted by survivors, families of victims, rescue and recovery workers, and Lower Manhattan residents who experienced it firsthand. The museum has three floors and eight galleries, each of which is dedicated to a different aspect of the attacks.

Your Experience

The tour will begin with a brief history of the World Trade Center. You will learn about the 9/11 attacks and its impact on the lives of New York residents and America as a whole. You will also visit the September 11 Memorial Plaza. The Plaza is filled with white oak trees that impart a sense of serenity and peace. You can also see the Firefighters Memorial Wall, dedicated to all the courageous firefighters who put their lives on the line to save hundreds of people during the attacks. The trained guides are those who have had personal experience during the 9/11 attacks.
Hearing stories from those who experienced the horror and anguish firsthand is a truly chilling and unforgettable experience. Video tapes, artifacts, and photographs of this event can be seen here as you learn about the events that shocked the world.
Walking through the museum will transport you to the turmoil and destruction of the attacks. The Remembrance Room in particular, will help you understand the enormity of the loss that occurred on the fateful day. The tour will end with a discussion about the rebuilding of the new World Trade Centers.
