Central Park Walking Tour
Meet your guide in front of the Maine Monument right at Columbus Circle at 10 a.m. Central Park was built as a "discovery park" and most of that of which to discover is in the southern part of the park, very accessible by foot.
See some of the remarkable sites including the Hecksher Playground, the Chess & Checkers House, the Hallett Sanctuary, the Carousel, the Mall, the Bethesada Terrace and Fountain, the Lake, the Loeb Boathouse, Strawberry Fields and much, much more. Take in the view of the Upper West Side skyline from Cherry HIll. Ascend to the heights of Summit Rock, the highest natural elevation in the park and see the area of a free black community.
Learn how the park came about, the style it was built in, how it was built (i.e. labor, materials, duration, etc.), problems along the way and much more.
Suggestions for lunch and further touring will be offered by the end of the tour.
