The Flavors of Greenwich Village: Italian Food Tour with Pizza & Gelato
This tour introduces you to the flavors of Greenwich Village as you learn the history of the immigrants who made it one of the foodie meccas of New York. You'll get a slice from one of the most famous pizzerias in the city and enjoy a cool gelato from an innovative new gelateria as you see some of the neighborhood landmarks. Along the way, you’ll learn where to shop for the most authentic ingredients, and how to tell if what you’re buying is the real deal. This tour starts at Washington Square Arch, where your tour guide will give you an introduction to the history of immigration in the neighborhood before taking you for one of the best slices of pizza in the city. As you eat, your guide will explain why New Yorkers value pizza over perhaps any other fast food and give you recommendations for other places to try. Then he'll take you on a stroll through the neighborhood to see some of its most iconic eateries. From cheese shops and bakeries to delis and restaurants, you’ll learn how the locals eat and where they eat. At all the stops you’ll have the option to purchase your own food but as a treat, your guide will buy you one of our favorite arancini rice balls. The final stop is Pop Bar - the Village’s most popular gelato shop. Forget the cup and cone: this is authentic gelato on a stick. Pick from a huge variety of flavors, both traditional and innovative; it’s on the house.
