About this activity
Explore Cannes and discover its magnificent palaces along the Croisette boulevard: the Carlton, the Majestic or the Martinez, where the stars are staying during the Film Festival. Even take the opportunity to walk on the famous red carpet that covers the world famous steps of the Palais des Festivals. Then, we will follow the seaside toward Antibes and discover the old town surrounded by ramparts. They were built in the medieval period to protect the city from the barbarian invasions of the Goths, Visigoths, and other Saracens. Antibes has also become a focus of contemporary art thanks to the famous painter, Picasso who spent a part of his life here. Next, we will enjoy one of the most visited places in France, Saint-Paul-de-Vence. This magnificent fortified village dates from the 11th Century and was host to: artists Chagall, Picasso, and Matisse, writers Prvert and Pagnol, as well as entertainers Signoret, Montand. At the entrance to the city, right next to the old wash house from the 17th century, La Colombe d'Or boasts the biggest names of our time and past time: Henry Matisse, Roger Moore, and Tony Curtis. On the set of Le Puy, you can pay tribute to Chagall who chose to rest here with his wife and brother. Then stroll along the ramparts and cobbled streets inside the walls and discover the shops and art galleries punctuating the village. Your tour will go through to the scenic roads of the "Moyenne Corniche," offering a splendid view over Villefranche-sur-Mer and the peninsula of Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat. En route to Monaco, make a stop to discover the medieval village of Eze, one of the most picturesque sites in the French Riviera. Dating from the Middle Ages, the village was built on top of the rocky outcrop for security reasons. The twelfth-century walls, however, were dismantled in 1706 by order of Louis XIV. Take the cobbled streets and reach the top where you can find the exotic garden and castle ruins - the view is amazing (427 meters high)! Then, enjoy a visit the famous Fragonard perfume factory down in the village. Go through the village of La Turbie, also called the "Monaco Terrace" because of the panoramic view of the Principality of Monaco. Admire the ruins of an imposing monument (50 meters high): the Trophy of the Alps, dedicated to Emperor Augustus in 7 BC, on the road that linked Italy to Cimiez (the Roman Quarter Nice). You will then reach the Principality of Monaco, where we will visit the old town on "Le Rocher" (the rock) overlooking the sea and harbor (60 meters high), where you will discover: - The Prince's Palace and the Changing of the Guard at 11:55. In front of the Palais du Prince, you will notice the Carabinieri Barracks. Created on the 8th of December 1817, the Carabinieri have ensured the safety of the Royal Family as well as maintained public order. - The Cathedral of neo-Roman style, whose first stone was laid the 6th of January 1875. Entirely built in white stones from La Turbie during the reign of Prince Charles III, it was completed on the 12th of November 1903. You can pay tribute to the Monaco Princes and "Princesse Grace de Monaco" who rest here. - The Justice Palace, inaugurated in 1930, built in solid tufa, a porous gray stone also used to construct the walls. - The Oceanographic Museum created by Prince Albert I of Monaco. Then, you will arrive at Monte-Carlo in the most beautiful way, by taking the famous Grand Prix track of Formula One. Explore Monte Carlo and discover: - The Casino de Monte-Carlo, whose construction was ordered by the Societe des Bains de Mer (created by Francois Blanc in 1863). - Lavish Casino gardens. - The Hotel de Paris which has all the charm of the great hotels of the 19th century.
