Stop At: Indein Village, Taunggyi, Shan State
In the morning, we will be taking a short walk from your hotel to Nyaung Shwe jetty. Then we will board a boat which will bring us to the village of Indein (also spelt Inn Thein, and meaning ‘shallow lake’) is most famous for its crumbling and atmospheric groups of ancient pagodas, some of which are now being restored (sometimes in rather too pristine fashion).
In Indein, we will be visiting a 17th century Pagoda called Shwe Inn Thein Paya consisting of a complex of 1054 weather-beaten zedi (stupas) and pay a visit to many of the small communities alongside the lake’s edge. To reach Indein and the nearby village we will take a boat ride up a small scenic creek that runs into Inle Lake.
