Stop At: Valley of the Temples, 47-200 Kahekili Hwy., Kaneohe, Oahu, HI

Visit the temple gorunds and the peace bell.

The Bell House, called kanetsuki-do, contains a five foot high, three ton brass bell, called bon-sho (sacred bell), cast in Osaka, Japan, from a mixture of bronze and tin, by permission of the government of Japan. It closely resembles the bell hanging in an identical Bell House at the Uji Byodo-In. The original is said to be more than 900 years old and to have come from India. It is revered for its distinctive shape, and the tone of the bell sounds a message of deep calm and peace, cleansing the mind of evil and temptation.

The resonant sound of the bon-sho creates an atmosphere of tranquility for meditation that travels for some distance. A soft wooden log called the “shu-moku” is used to strike the bell.

The bell is customarily rung before one enters the temple to spread the eternal teachings of Buddha. Ringing the bell will purify the mind of evil spirits and temptation. It is said that ringing this bell will bring you happiness, blessings, and a long life. It is customarily rung before entering the temple.

This tour was a great way to capture quick visits to several locations on the north shore. In seven hours we visited five locations. Eric, our tour guide, was very informative and provided information about the state, city, culture, etc. This was a very cost effective tour since it included a great lunch at Fumis

We took this tour as an alternative to a ship tour. Long day with lots to see. Good value for money and informative guide. Happy we got to see a green turtle on the beach.

Other than the bus being late because of traffic, it was an amazing day! Monique had so much information to share and there were many stops that it never felt like we were driving for that long. I learned so much and it was very affordable. I don’t think it’s the right tour for families with young kids.

We had a very knowledgeable tour guide she was a great pleasure to listen to the entire time. Even though it was a long day she made it well worth our time . I am terrible with names so I apologize for that. But keep her doing these tours and you'll continue to have really good ratings .

This tour was a good way to see the North Shore of the island without having to rent a car. Our driver and guide Paul was very friendly and took good care of the group, and he also shared his extensive knowledge about the history of the island throughout the day. Also, the shrimp lunch was delicious.
