About this activity
Upon your cruise’s arrival in Ocho Rios, meet your local guide at the port and board your coach or minibus (depending on total group size) for your shore excursion to Dunn’s River Falls, just about 2 miles (3.2 km) west of Ocho Rios on Jamaica’s northern coast.
One of Jamaica’s most beloved natural attractions, Dunn’s River Falls has been featured in movies like Cocktail and Dr No and is known for its lush setting just off the beach. Often called a living phenomenon because it’s continuously rebuilt from minerals in the river, Dunn’s River Falls is one of the world’s only waterfalls that empties directly into the ocean.
When you arrive, listen to a quick introduction from your guide, and then you’re free to enjoy the falls however you wish. Put on non-slip water shoes (available to rent if you don’t have your own) to climb up the 600-foot (180-meter) terraced falls, carefully walking up the ‘steps’ formed by the naturally chiseled rocks. Take breaks along the way to swim in the small lagoons formed on the different levels, and when you reach the top, you’ll be rewarded with a nice view.
If you prefer to just relax, you can hang out on the deck to admire the falls, or go swimming in the natural lagoon at the bottom. When your free time comes to an end, head with your guide to a nearby restaurant for a 1-hour lunch break. Refuel with a traditional Jamaican jerk meal, and relax over a beer or rum cocktail, if you wish (lunch is included; alcoholic beverages are at your own expense).
When lunch is over, head back to the Ocho Rios port to re-board your cruise ship.

I would highly recommend this excursion. Our guide to the falls, Sherrie and driver Henri were excellent, she was very easy to talk to and ask questions of. Once at the falls we were put into a group with a guide named Melbourne to make the climb. Our kids 16 and 18 wasn’t to sure about the excursion I took us on but by the end of the climb they were talking about how much they enjoyed it. After the falls we were taken to a little restaurant where we had jerk chicken, it was a very good meal.

Henry and Sherryl were great guides! They were very relaxed and accommodating and made sure we weren't overly harassed by all the people on the street trying to sell you stuff. Only reason it's not 5 stars is because the lunch provided was the worst jerk chicken I've had! The falls are hard but fun.

Arranged the trip through Viatours and saved money on similar trip arranged through the cruise ship. We were picked up from the cruise port in a small group of 10 and had a friendly local guide Cheryl throughout our tour. As well as going to the falls I don't need to go in to great detail as other contributors have said it all we also got to see Fern Gully, and had an excellent freshly prepared lunch. Climbing the falls in a human chain is great fun but physically quite demanding as you climb several hundred feet over slippery rocks and pools. I would recommend taking water shoes with you from home to save paying the inflated prices for cheap Chinese ones in the souvenir shops. Alternatively rent them for 7 if you are coming through the cruise port at Ocho Rios. You can no longer rent them at the falls themselves. We had to endure a couple of tourist souvenir shops on the way to the falls, but this is common to many trips I have been on in Britain and Europe. Overall this is well worth the money and a safe way to experience a small slice of Jamaica. The trip took about 4.5 hours
