1 day
About this activity
La Maddalena Arcipelago is a group of islands in North-East Sardinia, Costa Smeralda; the most spectacular and important islands are La Maddalena, Caprera, Santo Stefano, Budelli with its famous pink beach, Santa Maria, Razzoli, Spargi and other 55 minor islands.
In order to preserve the incredible natural beauty, the entire archipelago has become completely included within the area of National Park of La Maddalena Archipelago on 1994 and there are special permissions for the recreational activities, diving and general economic activities.
The stunning scenery also intertwines the story that counts most illustrious names like Napoleon Bonaparte, Admiral Nelson and Giuseppe Garibaldi, who has given to the museum on the island of Caprera some important legacies in terms of art works.
ITINERARY
The ferries departs daily from the ports of La Conia, Cannigione and Baja Sardinia. The trip passes the islands of Caprera and Santo Stefano to reach La Maddalena town, where a stop is made for a walking and shopping in typical stores.
In the historic center you can visit the Town Hall (where there is an unexploded bomb that, during the French expedition, was shot by Napoleon's troops), Naval Museum and Diocesan Museum of Sacred Art (there is exposed the 'Treasure of Santa Maria Maddalena' - collection of jewels offered to the patron as a votive - and altar kit (two candlesticks and silver crucifix in neoclassical style) gift of Admiral Horatio Nelson, who did also deliver an autographed letter, which is also held there. You can also see preserved statues and prints, church ornaments, documentation of tenders.
The voyage continues towards one of the most beautiful islands of La Maddalena Archipelago, Spargi and S.ta Maria where we stop about an hour to swim in the beautiful crystal clear waters. Then a panoramic tour of Manto della Madonna, the stretch of sea with shallow waters in unique colors.
Then we wil pass close to Budelli Island, famous for the pink beach where it is prohibited to land as it is a protected area for some years now.
During the stop at Spargi Island, in the most enchanting bay Cala Corsara, you can admire the rocks that are real natural sculptures, created by erosion of the wind and other atmospheric phenomena which helped them taking on particular forms : the head of the witch, the dog, the boot, etc.
On our way back we will pass Punta Sardegna, Porto Raphael, Palau and Capo d'Orso where you can admire the famous eponymous rock.
