Pass By: International Drive, Orlando, FL 32819

We pickup through various areas of the tourism area, and leave from the International Drive Region heading north towards St. Augustine

Stop At: Old St. Augustine Village, 246 Saint George St, St. Augustine, FL 32084-4434

The Historic District in St. Augustine is the heart of the city. This is where guests will find a majority of the city's restaurants, shopping, hotels, and attractions. The Historic District is the oldest part of the city with many buildings dating back to the 1700s. Even the streets are laid out as they would have been centuries ago, and are more walkable than a lot of cities visitors are used to seeing in America. Along with being a beautiful area for finding things to do like shopping, visiting museums, and dining, the Historic District is also home to the beautiful bayfront with lovely panoramic views of the Matanzasa Bay.

The top rated attractions in the area are centered around the Historic District and reflect the importance of history in shaping St. Augustine into what it is today. For example, the Colonial Quarter is a living history museum with costumed reenactors and interactive experienes. The Castillo and the Fountain of Youth both have weapons demonstrations so guests can expect to hear the sound of canon and musket fire around the Historic District.

Another defining feature of the Historic District is the architecture. The design on building facades represents the height of Spanish Colonial and Spanish Renaissance Revival architecture. The area of town showcases everything from early European design, Florida bungalow style houses, and Gilded Age extravegance. Being the nation's oldest city, the Historic District of St. Augustine represents all that history has built here since 1565.

Comfortable air conditioned minivan from Orlando to St Augustine. Included a hop on hop off trolley ride, advised to stay on for most of the ride then decide where to get off then wander at your leisure. There were 23 stops which finishes back near the start. I decided to get off at stop 17 at the end of the town near the oldest house and next to the river boardwalk. From here I walked the 'Martin Luther King freedom walk' signs show where he stayed and spoke. There is beautiful architecture from a variety of periods, Flagler College and Memorial Church, the St. George St pedestrian mall with the oldest schoolhouse and the old fort started in 1672. If you love history and architecture you will love this tour.

Excellent driver. Clearly you could not control the weather but you might have warned us that due to it being Thanksgiving, everything was shut. Clearly not good. An expensive washout!!

This trip was very much worth it. We had to leave extremely early, because our hotel was not on the list of pick-up points, but St. Augustine is a very interesting and charming place, and we had enough time to stroll around and visit many of the historical buildings. It was useful to have bought the trolley pass.
