Kyoto Avanti bus stop was very easy to find. There were only 7 of us total, all women, in a 50-person bus. So, lots of room! First stop was an overlook of Lake Biwa, the largest fresh water lake in Japan. Then on to Gujo Hachman for a Little lesson in making those plastic food samples they use in the restaurants here. It didn’t take long (although it will take 3 days to set) but it was a fun souvenir. After that, we had a delicious Japanese included lunch before driving to Shiragawa where it was snowing. Pretty heavily at times, too. Shiragawa was lovely, even in the snow. Well worth visiting. After an hour or so, we were off to Takayama. I had hoped to walk around the temples there after dinner, but the snow had really slowed us down and it was darn cold, too. When we got to the hotels (I had to book one separately from my adult kids as they didn’t have a triple available), unfortunately I was assigned a smoking room and it was too darn cold to open a window. They put up an air cleaner, but it didn’t really work. I got quite a headache from it. Apparently when I booked the tour, they say I didn’t specify non-smoking, but I am sure I did. I guess the person booking it for me with Viator didn’t write it down. The bus picked us up and drove through the very pretty mountains (but I was really worried since the roads were snow covered). We finally got through it and stopped at a little sake brewing company. It was mostly a tour of their home and then sales of sake but interesting and very friendly people. I enjoyed it quite a bit. After that, we drove Suwa lake to look over the scene and have the included lunch which was excellent. Then it was off to Mt. Fuji 4th station for gorgeous views of Mt Fuji (cloudless skies and the view was very clear). They dropped us off at Shinjuku. It was a terrific tour except for the mixup with the smoking rooms. I do wish they had triple rooms so we didn't have to split up into separate hotels.
