In Tottori Prefecture Uratomi Beach also accredited by UNESCO, as World Geo Park, is a rias coast of 15 km from east to west, formed by rough waves of Japan Sea. You can observe various geographical features such as caves tunnels, caves, white sand beaches, etc.. It is almost a museum of topographical and geological features. Besides the coast, it is also a pleasure walking on the land. By taking the promenade equipped

along the coastline, you can see the clear and lucid sea so close by~ There is sightseeing boat visitors can take to appreciate a different view from what can be seen on the land. It can be a refreshing experience with sea breeze blowing over!

The Tottori Sand Dune spreads along the coastline in Tottori City of Tottori Prefecture. It is said to have a history of 100,000 years and is a natural monument of the country. It is also designated as the San-in Coast National Park. The area is approximately 2.4km long from north to south and 16km from east to west, and has been a top sightseeing spot among visitors. It is Japan's largest sand dune, and from here the view the Sea of Japan is spectacular! Visitors can have a camel-riding experience at the Sand Dune.

Sand Museum next to the Sand Dune has owned a collection of superb sand art works that have very much impressed its visitors. The sand arts are torn down and rebuilt on a regular basis. Its exhibitions are so diversified that probably nobody will get bored with it no matter how many times they go. In fact sand statue artists from all over the world gather here and create these art works complying with various themes, thereafter make them public. By using mere material of sand, the simply beautiful sand arts are born. Please enjoy admiring them when you are there!

Stop At: Tofu Chikuwa no Sato Chimura, 556 Kawaharacho Hotei, Tottori 680-1202 Tottori Prefecture

In Tottori local people have a tradition of eating "Tofu-chikuwa", and its history dates back to Edo Period. “Tofu-chikuwa” not only plays a role as daily food, but also is eaten at shrine’s ceremony or wedding on special day called “Hare no Day”. These shrines are built in the central city area of Tottori city, which prospered as a castle town since ancient times. In this sense, “Tofu-chikuwa” has been a really consistent tradition in Tottori people’s food culture since Edo period. Please try how this food tastes, and buy some as souvenirs if you are into them!
