About this activity
Visit: Blenheim Palace, Woodstock OX20 1PP England

A masterpiece of baroque architecture, Blenheim Palace offers visitors an awe-inspiring and educational experience. Home to the current,12th Duke of Marlborough and his family, and the birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill in 1874, the palace is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and boasts a long and rich history.

Built in the early 18th century as a gift from Queen Anne and a grateful nation to John Churchill, the then 1st Duke of Marlborough, for his victory at the Battle of Blenheim in August 1704, this magnificent house is home to one of Europe’s most important and extensive historical collections, including portraits, furniture, sculptures, porcelain, and tapestries.

Show your ticket to enter and set off to explore the gilded State Rooms and interior treasures, all set against the backdrop of this splendid Grade I-listed building’s striking stonework. As you explore and admire, learn about the fascinating history of the house and the fortunes of the Marlboroughs through the centuries.

Among the must-sees are the famous Marlborough Tapestries, also known as the ‘Victory Series,’ which hang in the Green Writing Room, and First, Second, and Third State Rooms. Be sure, too, to take in the beautiful Long Library with its walls lined with more than 10,000 books, many of them centuries-old and heavy with historical significance.

Your visit won’t be complete without exploring the majestic gardens. Take a leisurely stroll to soak in the splendors of the Water Terraces, and formal Rose Garden, and Italian Garden, among other areas.

The palace is also the stage for rolling exhibitions and special events throughout the year, all of them promising to add another dimension to your visit.
