After pickup from your hotel in Villahermosa, depart with diraction to Palenque in an air-conditioned minivan for a full-day cultural and archaeological tour. Your first stop is the Palenque archaeological site (Located in Chiapas 2.5 hours away from Villahermosa), once an important Mayan capital city. The ruins date back to 226 BC and are surrounded by jungle. Much of the history of this ancient civilization is interpreted by hieroglyphics inscribed on the monuments. Before the visit we will have time to take a breakfast and then continue with the visit to this amazing archaeological site. This guided-tour has been the nightmare of our entire Mexico trip. On hindsights, we wouldn't pay such a high premium for such a lousy guided-tour. Viator seriously needs to re-evaluate whether to de-list this guided tour, indeed the local operator in question, for reputation's sake. Instead of air-conditioned minivan as promised, we a group of 4 were picked up by and travelled for the entire day-trip in a very small and old passenger sedan car with non-functioning air condition. The 3 average-size thin adults sitting at the back of the car had to suffer for at least 4.5 hours in the car as there was not an inch of room spared. The middle passenger at the back was literally squashed. The driver in question was not professional. He often talked on and played with his mobile phone for prolonged periods. At times, he did so whilst driving disregarding passengers' safety. Worse still, conducting his personal affairs whilst on duty - he drove us around in Palenque looking for ATM machine and once he found one we were left in the car for 15 minutes so he could take money out, talk on his mobile phone and smoke. No communications on pick-up by the local operator. Local contact number provided couldn't be reached at all. Late pick-up, late departure and very late breakfast after 11:30 am despite only 4 of us on that trip. To top it all off, we had to turn back and abandon our visit to Misol-Ha waterfall at the driver's suggestion as were were stuck on the raod due to a car accident.
