Erice and Segesta Day Trip from Palermo with Sicilian Food and Wine Tasting

About this activity
Meet your tour leader in central Palermo and head for the hills towards two beautiful towns in Sicily’s wild west.
After a relaxing journey in a comfortable air-conditioned vehicle, stop at Erice, an isolated medieval town perched high on top of Mt Erice. Listen as your tour leader reveals Erice’s fascinating backstory. Legend suggests that Erice was founded by the indigenous Elymian people, who were believed to be Trojan exiles.
Admire the breathtaking vistas of sweeping valleys and wander around the maze of Mediterranean lanes. Venture into some of the town’s pastry shops, which are known for their mouthwatering selections of specialty sweets, such as marzipan candies and almond and pistachio pastries.
Travel to a Sicilian olive oil estate and tuck into a typical Sicilian lunch that features fresh local produce such as cheese, salumi and olives. Savor samples of olive oil and wine, which are also produced locally.
After lunch, continue to Segesta, another city connected to the ancient Elymian people. Pay the admission fee to enter the archaeological site independently. Explore the ancient ruins at your leisure, marveling at the unfinished Doric temple, which dates back to the 5th century BC and at panoramic vistas of the rolling hills.
Please note that your tour leader will not accompany you inside the site, but he or she will be able to share information about its highlights and history.
Afterward, settle back into your seat for a scenic drive back to central Palermo, where your tour concludes.

This was a great tour!! It was much more than I expected. I met the bus at the central location and got on the bus. There were about 15 of us I think. Everyone was super nice and the guide did a great job. Both Erice and Segesta were amazing. We had time to walk around and even got a little snack. Of course theres a bit of walking, but you can decide what you want to do. Great way to see the countryside and learn more about Sicily. I was traveling on my own and met some really great people on the tour! I recommend!

The meeting place in front of the Prada store was easy to find. We were comfortable on the bus not there is no bathroom. We received a great deal of interesting information about Palermo and the surrounding countryside on our 1.5 hour drive to Erice. Upon arrival we were given a tasty treat at a local sweet shop and a bathroom break before walking the incline up to the central square. We chose to immediately walk up to the castle - incredible views of the ocean and landscape below. We paid 2 euros to enter the open air museum as well. We walked back to the city center square and had just enough time for a glass of wine before boarding the bus. It took another hour to get to the olive vineyard. After a brief overview of olive oil making we were served a very delicious lunch of various vegetables, fish, pasta, etc. It was super tasty and there was more than enough food and wine to go around. Another hour drive took us to Segestra. Definitely purchase the 1 euro bus ticket to the ruins, it's a steep and long climb! We toured the hilltop ruins and walked down to the visitor center, then walked up a steep hill to the temple. Absolutely gorgeous and a must see! Incredible history and views. We got back to town at about 5:30PM. I would highly recommend this excursion for those interested in seeing ruins and the countryside.
