The Teatro Massimo in Palermo is the largest opera house in Italy, as well as one of the largest in Europe. With its location along one of the city's main axes, this building is the 'trait d'union' between the ancient city and the new one. The architectural complex is magnificent, consisting of ceremonial rooms, halls and monumental staircases that surround the actual theater space; the style is elegant, rigorous and refined, and the structure has a monumental beauty.
