About this activity
Approximately 2.500masl. Upward, the volcano is almost devoid of vegetation. The summit crater is about 250 mts. in diameter and about 50 mts. deep, open to the south and surrounded by concentric cracks and crevices, from which emanate weak fumaroles. North and east is a small plateau at the top, where another depression craters of equal size. For indigenous documents is also known that it was approximately around the year 1469. Its last eruption was recorded on June 3, 1853 when the ashes were thrown causing a blackout. The volcanic rock is apparently andesite. Interesthings to see: Plants of coffee, maize, beans, guachipilin trees, avocado confer forests, cedar, pine, white stick, the best view in the top of the volacan, where you can see the Tajumulco volcanoes, Pacaya, fire. Lake Atitlan and the Pacific Coast.
