Overall great experience on the canal. The hotel pick up was a little confusing - a different operator picked us up than indicated in the confirmation from Viator. They were also an hour late picking us up. Lastly, the operator didn't have the correct paperwork when we got to the canal entry point and we had to wait 90 minutes on the bus while the operator worked it out. Again, the tour on the canal itself was excellent, but the logistics with the transportation to and from required extra patience and flexibility.
Amazing trip through a true exhibit of man's abilities. And, to think it was done over 100 years ago is even more amazing.
Our guide was delightful, but the waiting was not. We were told to be in our lobby at 7:15 for a pick up time between 720 and 740, at 825 our bus arrived. We then went to the terminal where we waited for our next bus and then off to the boat, where we waited for the food to arrive, etc. There seemed to be a lot of waiting. After we got underway things were better, there was plenty to drink, sodas and water. The breakfast snacks of fruit and cake were nice. Lunch was so, so - beef or chicken with rice and potatoes, mixed veggies and a basic salad. But I will say our Guide was informative and fun to listen to - the trip through the locks was worth the time. I am glad that I went on this trip.
This was an excellent tour with JC as our tour guide. Although it was a long day, since we started at 6:30 AM and finished by 6:00PM, it was well worth it.The canal is an engineering miracle and I was really glad to take this tour. The staff were all courteous, the food was moderately good but JC's explanation made it fun. Minoti Rajput February 4, 2017
This tour was amazing!
The transit of the canal was absolutely fascinating. No visitor to Panama should miss it. My only negative comment about the experience was that it took a very long time to complete the pickup and dropoff of guests at the various hotels. I would suggest using several smaller vehicles, each going to a few hotels, rather than one large bus going to every hotel.
The tour was great. The tour guide did a good job of explaining things (safety protocol and local sites) and introduced a little humor as well. It was a full day! Pick ups start at 6 am and the last hotel drop offs end near 8 pm. The boat ride end to end was 8 am to after 6 pm. It was the full canal
