Your first stop on the tour will be an encounter with the local population, to appreciate and experience first hand their genuine generosity, warmth and kindness. While visiting a local village, one of the oldest and prettiest island churches and the local Colonial style Town Hall, you will be introduced to fishermen, their family and friends or the local Parishioners as they live their daily lives to be given a real insight into modern Polynesian lifestyle and mindset.
In the rivers or at the natural bathing spot of Vaima you can feed the huge mythic blue eyed eels and hear the ancient legends associated with them
Your next stop to the ancient, valley Temple, the Marae of Arahuruhu, set against a breath taking, picturesque backdrop, provides a real insight into ancient Polynesian culture, lifestyle and values. A brief stop at a natural watering hole a fun moment to rub shoulders with the locals as you collect water with them
The tour of the botanical garden of Vaipahi with its picturesque waterfall, gets you up close to the vegetation to wonder at it's size and beauty.
After the Tahiti Iti view point the drive back up the coast includes on weekdays a stop at the Monoi coconut oil factory to learn how this traditional nourishing oil is made and used locally.
On a spectacular black volcanic sandy beach you will have time to watch the surfers as they ride the waves up on the shoreline and to stroll along the beach. Finally, before the end of the tour marvel at the stunning fern Caves of Maraa, a local wonder where the artist Paul Gauguin swam in the cool fresh waters with the local population.

Thanks Tracey you are lovely! We really enjoyed our half day tour of the West side of Tahiti. It was a great introduction to exploring a little piece of Tahiti - ( outside the city of Papeete)! We felt like we saw a lot in 4 hours, but the tour did not feel rushed. Loved the fresh coconut water you bought roadside for us! And stopping to chat with the local fisherman to see what the “fresh catch” of the day was neat! We thought the coconut oil factory was so interesting! Loved the beautiful botanical garden and temple! And enjoyed watching the surfers at the Black Sand beach! Can’t wait to get back and explore the Eastside with you!Merci and Maururu!
