About this activity
The first stop will be Avacas Gorge, a trekker’s paradise, offering spectacular views and a plethora of local flora and fauna, including the endangered centauria akamantis, an endemic plant found only in the gorge. The gorge itself is carved out of limestone rock rising as high as 30 meters and narrowing dramatically at one point.

Our journey continues along the coastline towards Lara Bay, the nesting ground of two species of marine turtles, the green turtle (chelonia mydas) and the loggerhead turtle (caretta caretta). Learn about the Lara Turtle Conservation project, the life of these animals, and see their nests. If you are lucky, you might even see the baby turtles hatching (end of July to October). There will also be some time for swimming

at this secluded paradise beach.

Our next stop will be Saint George Church, where three early Christian basilicas and a bath were found and excavated in the 1950’s. There will be free time for lunch.

On our way back to the hotels we will see the Sea Caves, the mysterious wave cut ‘sculpture’ formed out of the natural rocky shore and beach caves.

A great day out. Our guide, Orla, was very informative and went out of her way to make the day special.

We enjoyed this trip, we were picked up by the mini bus at the exact time stated, we had to pick quite a few more people up until the minibus was full, this took another hour or so, along the way we picked up our guide. He was informative and friendly. The mini bus driver was quite a character. We stopped off at a small banana plantation and a beautiful little church on the way to the Akamas National Park, the roads in the area are dirt roads and so no other vehicles other than quads and 4WD's. This means a bumpy ride at times but it was fine, the distances are not so great. We enjoyed the walk, it is not long, but there are some stepping stones and it is quite uneven, you need shoes for walking, definitely not flip flops or similar which some were wearing. The area is very dry late in the year but in spring there are some beautiful flowers. Use the toilet facilities at the church as the coffee stop has a pretty bad toilets, not great coffee either but it's in the middle of nowhere so to be expected. Lara beach is beautiful, you need something to sit on and beach wear and a hat at the very least, there is no shade and no facilities there. Also there is no water etc available so best to take some. There are turtle nests on the beach which are protected, we saw some hatchlings being released into the water. Lunch is quite late, about 2 o'clock after the beach stop, the restaurant has lovely views and is very quiet. There is no rush, we enjoyed the feta with tomatoes but not the pork kebab which was not good, there is quite a bit of choice however. Afterwards we went to view a shipwreck just offshore, not a very old one but interesting just the same. there are some sea caves nearby. Then we went back to Pathos. Overall it made a nice day out and was priced about right I would say. Take a drink and possibly a snack, walking shoes and a hat, swimwear and something to sit on for the beach, an old towel is ideal. If I had realised that lunch was going to be late I would have taken some snacks, otherwise it was fine.

It was wonderful. Bus was on time, the whole crew was very nice. And our guide, Nemo, is one of the kindest, funniest and most helpful person we have ever met. It's great. really.
