Stop At: Islas Ballestas, Paracas, Ica Region

At Marina Turistica in Paracas your remarkable boat ride to the Ballestas Islands begins, which are three small islands filled with amazing wildlife. Throughout the tour, you will be able to see the ‘Candelabro´, which is a giant geoglyph in the shape of a candle holder cutted into the closely located mountain.
When you arrive at the Ballestas Islands, you can observe amazing animals like seals, sea lions, sea birds, penguins, pelicans, tendrils, Inca tern, the Peruvian booby, the red legged cormorant and the guanay. You will travel closely around the islands to have spectacular views of the animals on the shore, animals flying overhead, and those swimming underwater.
After touring the islands, we will take you to the beautiful Paracas Reserve. Your time in the reserve will allow you to see several species of birds, oceanic fossils now trapped in the desert, the only red sanded beach in Peru, flamingos, the famous Cathedral Rock formation and learn all about its flora and fauna.

The trip to Ballestas Islands was great and worthy of a 5, but from there it all went down hill as it is not one tour but two cobbled together. We were told to wait and someone would collect us - and hour later we were collected and had to follow at speed to a battered old bus for the Ballestas Reserve. At the first stop we were given three options, Museum, something else we had to pay for, or flamingos. Most people took the long walk to see the flamingos, and while the tour could not be blamed that they were so far away, even if they had been at the closest point they would have been hard to see. The cathedral rock used to be a sight to see -but a storm a number of years ago destroyed two thirds of it, so it is now just a rock in the sea. The lunch / swimming spot was just awful. However, the desert was interesting, and the guide helpful - but I would not recommend it.
