An Introduction to the Louvre

About this activity

You'll meet your tour guide on the Ponts des Arts to enjoy views over the Seine and see the Louvre as it would have appeared to the 12-century English invaders it was originally meant to repel. Then he will take you into its oldest courtyard to get a closer look at the defenses as well as the architectural embellishments that were added by later rulers. As you move into newer areas of the palace, you’ll also move through time, learning about the way the building grew and changed to accommodate different eras and different people, From Louis XIV to Napoleon Bonaparte and finally the present day. The tour will finish on the edge of the Tuileries, where your guide, who has a passion for architecture and art history will give you some hints and tips for what to see and do if you want to head into the museums to see the art.
