About this activity
Following a morning pickup at your Paris hotel, meet your private guide and take a seat in your air-conditioned minivan. Then, relax on route out of the city and into the Loire valley region.
Start your Loire valley tour from Paris by visiting the charming castle of Chenonceau, referred to as the "Castle of the Five Ladies" by historians, a unique Renaissance architecture masterpiece from the 16th Century. The first Chateau de Chenonceau was originally built over the Cher river in the 11th century and was a great place to entertain royal guests and noblemen. After being burned to the ground in 1412 by the order of French King, the castle was rebuilt twice, once in 1432 then again between 1515-1522 on the foundations of an old mill. At the time of Catherine de Medici Chenonceau was extended to span the river, adding also new gardens. King François 1st, Charles Quint and Henri II visited it in the past; like them you will be able to admire its authentic gardens, moats and beautiful residence rooms near the quaint village of Chenonceaux.
You will then have a guided tour of the castle of Chambord (the largest of the Loire valley castles) a sumptuous Renaissance Palace created for our King François 1st even though he will stay here only a few weeks during his reign ; its double revolution staircase was inspired by Leonardo Da Vinci the famous artist/genius/inventor/architect. Completed at the time of Louis XIV, the Sun King will reside in the chateau several times, giving in the region hunting parties.
Enjoy a guided tour of the castles of the Loire River Valley with our expert licensed tour guide who will explain you the history and the anecdotes of the sites that you will visit (guided tour- no audioguide provided instead). Lunch in the historic town of Amboise (not included) where Da Vinci lived his last years and passed away.
We only give private Loire castles day trips from Paris.
When your tour comes to an end, return in comfort to your Paris hotel.
