We could have not expected anything more from Susan, our guide. She was very pleasant, knowledgeable and fun to be around. Wish we would have met her earlier and had her for our whole time in Paris!!
Our guide knew the best way to manage our way through the Louvre. You could get lost trying to find your must see highlights, especially if you have a limited amount of time. There is so much to see in the Louvre. I could spend days in there but we didnt have the time so this is a really good way to see your top 5 highlights! Did I mention that we did the night tour with one other couple. The evening light gave off a glow in the Louvre.
Our small group tour was us and the guide Alex. His knowledge of art is simply incredible. We had a great time other then the crowds and enjoyed this tour. Definitely do skip the line tours.
If you're not a Louvre expert this is the way to go. We did this on a Friday night so the Louvre was open until 9:45pm and the crowds were manageable. Our guide, Alex, was knowledgeable, punctual and tailored the time in the museum to our interests. Although our tour was technically a 6-person small group tour it wound up just the three in our group. BTW, I've found that often you can book as a part of a small group and wind up with a private tour for a fraction of the cost. IMO, this is the best way to see the major exhibits in the Louvre. The place is huge and we would have wandered around for hours without Alex.
We had the incredible fortune that our guide Susan was an art major at university and she was VERY knowledgeable--gave the tour a whole new feeling which we very much appreciated. The only reason why it didn't get 5 stars was that the Louvre was VERY crowded! Susan was telling us that the day we went Sat at 9AM it was considered not crowded yet it dwarfed anything I'd seen at NYC museums. And they should have a special way to view the Mona Lisa. Elbowing and fighting your way to the front and then being pressured is not the ideal way to take in and appreciate a master piece. Otherwise Susan was fantastic!
The tour guide and the intimacy of a small group made this the best stop during our visit.
