Stop At: Place Vendome, Paris, Ile-de-France

Head to Place Vendome and listen to the incredible story of war correspondent Ernest Hemingway. Along the way, your guide will also tell you the moving story of thousands of Parisians who experienced hunger and fear while living in a Nazi-occupied Paris.

Stop At: Rue de Rivoli, Paris, Ile-de-France

You will also see Rue de Rivoli and the Louvre where the last fight against German troops happened. You will be in the right area to dive into a great period: August 20th to 25th 1944, the days during which Paris was liberated. Have a glance at the Rue de Rivoli to imagine the French army fighting and then parading gloriously on one of the most emblematic streets of Paris.

Learn more about the “Vichy government” who collaborated with Nazi Germany and how its restrictive laws scarred French society. Round-ups, rationing and the birth of black market, denunciation became part of the Parisians’ daily life. Discover the role that French police and authorities played during these dark days.

Continue your captivating walk by Notre Dame cathedral to the Latin Quarter where you will find many tributes to the courageous men and woman who gave their lives for the freedom of their city.
