We paid for a kid friendly tour , Aceti was pleasant but late and not very interactive with my 12 year old granddaughter. She was very knowledgeable but should not have been leading a kids version of the tour . There were just the 3 of us and she mostly looked at me and rarely made eye contact with my granddaughter ( we had a kid friendly tour of the Louvre and the difference in guides was night and day on how she interacted with a 12 year old .
Our guide really focused on engaging our kids 10 and 12, although they were the only kids on the tour along with 8 adults. Perhaps the others joined this family tour because it was a shorter tour? After the personal tour of the palace, we had about an hour to walk around the grounds and grab some lunch for the 1/2 hour bus ride back. Great to have audio headsets provided to hear the guide better as well.
The day started poorly--possible strike by the workers at Versailles, we were notified at the meeting point and offered 1 money refund, 2 switch to a different day it was our last day, 3 go anyway--if the strike was settled by 10:30 am, we'd do the tour if it was not, we could tour the gardens no guide and be refunded 50. We opted to go. We arrived in time for our 9:30 am tour, but the strike talks were still going it was sprinkling, there was no place to wait except to stand in the parking lot the bus left. The strike was over at 10:30 am, but Versailles took the tours booked for that time, not the ones scheduled earlier. Our guide was good, not great at engaging children who had been cooling their jets in the parking lot for nearly 1.5 hours before we got in to see Versailles. It would have been good had he engaged the kids and told us about Versailles while we were waiting around instead of disappearing.
