About this activity
Upon arrival at Nature Adventure, located in the heart of the Matapedia village, the guide will help get ready for the trip by making sure all the safety equipment, including life jackets, are well fitted. After packing up barrels and dry bags, take off in a minibus traveling up the river, far from civilization. Depending upon the river chosen, the duration of the bus ride will range from one to two hours through back country roads. There may be a few stops to enjoy the spectacular scenery along the way.

At the starting point on the river, be amazed at the wildness of the area. The guide will carefully pack the canoes or kayaks with supplies for the trip. Afterwards, the guide will offer an appropriate briefing of the techniques needed to steer the boat down the river.

This personal tour is adaptable to any preferences. The same river can be approached several ways depending on whether travelers are looking to relax and talk about history, nature interpretation, or outdoor knowledge. Those who are more adventurous might want to practice different techniques of paddling and play in the rapids to gain a greater understanding of the dynamics of river currents.

Stop at waterfalls, hike up a mountain to see beautiful viewpoints, or watch wild animals in their natural habitat. Snacks are prepared by the guide and available throughout the trip. When stopping for lunch, notice the preparation taken in selecting local and healthy products. Pasta salads, cheese, vegetables with dips, smoked salmon, wraps — name it and the guides will make it possible. The meals are elaborate and people are often surprised to see what will get going on the fire. For dinner, there’s always a 3-course meal that includes either a soup or appetizer, a main dish, and a dessert. Cook fish on the fire, steaks, pork chops, seafood pasta, pizzas, and much more.

Once at the campsite, tents are lifted up and tarps are brought up to where the meals are cooked. Get comfortable and appreciate the simpleness of nature. Mattresses are provided to sleep comfortably or choose to bring a sleeping bag or use one that's supplied.

On a clear night, look up at the stars with absolutely no light pollution present on the rivers. The next morning, wake up to the smell of fresh coffee and fruits before eating a breakfast that will provide the energy to spend another day on the river.
