Visit at your own pace and discover the history, culture and heritage of the Gaspésie. Upon arrival present your virtual or printed Viator activity voucher at the Welcome Desk. From there you will be free to start exploring the museum. The exhibition Gaspésie...The Grand Voyage takes visitors on a real "tour of the Gaspésie." From West to East, from the sea to the mountains. Discover the region and get to know the men and women that shaped the Gaspésie. The exhibition notable features the Cartier medallion, arrowheads from Neolithic times, the torpedo of Saint-Yvon, unusual artefacts from the whaling and cod trades and much more. 

The museum also features various rotating temporary exhibitions. Some of these past exhibitions have been on local cusine, childhood in the Gaspésie, hockey, shipwrecks, art,

On your way out spend some time at the Jacques Cartier monument. Located behind the museum this monument is made up of six tablets that recount the story of when the First Nations met European civilization. This monument was inspired by Jacques Cartier`s arrival in 1534 and introduces people, events and historical transcripts. A few meters away is the sculpture En Mémoire D’elle, which is over 5 meters tall and pays homage to the Native, French and English women who helped shaped the Gaspésie.

Upgrade your admission ticket to include our La Gaspésienne number 20, new for the summer of 2017. An authentic 60 foot long cod fishing boat, installed on the grounds of the museum. The fishing boat has been restored with the help of the local community. Visitors can climb aboard and meet an authentic cod fisherman with our virtual reality experience. An experience like no other!

Treasue hunting junkie? The Musée de la Gaspésie Geo-Rally is a real modern-day treasure hunt. Gps and roadmap in hand ferret out the answers to a series of questions exploring the history of the region. Two walking tours are available: Museum Walk (1 hour) of Downtown Gaspé Walk (3 hours)
