This full day trip brings together 3 main historic towns that are a must visit with the rich history of colonial times, bush bandits and the gold rush, offering numerous historical federation and Victorian buildings restored to their original glory.
At 7amWe Head up through the darling ranges, Kalamunda through to the iconic Mundaring Weir with all of its picturesque views and engineering history supporting the gold rush and wheat Belt offering amazing photo opportunities. We stop in at the Mundaring Hotel (PUB) which is an icon of WA and built late 1800’s still in original condition, very popular on the weekends with locals, imense history relating to the dam and goldrush.
We then head to York – which is WA’s oldest inland town and a premier historical town in Western Australia arguably the best preserved historical town in the whole of Australia. You get a feel of what a colonial town in typical outback Australia was like. Among the many buildings and structures is one said to be one Australia’s most haunted houses, previously the York Hospital and Mental Asylum, The court house, sandalwood factory, suspension bridge, colonial hotels, churches and historical motor museum which we will visit.
From York we travel to Northam which is the largest inland town in WA and the original dispatch point for gold diggers, miners and pastoralist working inland. It is home to an international white water event yearly than is a two day event, again a very old township that gives you an exact feeling of what it is like living in the inland outback, with life for a local changing little.
25 Kilometers from Northam is Toodyay, a town that is famous for gaoling Moondyne Joe our most famous outlaw, and where the Moondyne festival is held every year. Toodyay Gaol, old Mill, and a depth of 1800 history still lives on in this town, popular on weekends with motorcycle fraternity. We have lunch at the famous coca cola café before heading off to the swan valley for either Wine tasting and or Caversham Wildlife Park at 2pm
