Saffron house tour in Città della Pieve and lunch at Lake Trasimeno

Discover all there is to know about saffron and its uses in a unique location, the old cellars of an ancient building in the heart of the picturesque Città della Pieve. Inside the Saffron House you'll find explicative panels that tell the story of this unique flower and explain the many different areas in which it's used. At the end of your visit, you'll have the chance to taste saffron tea, oil, beer, grappa, biscuits, jams, chocolate, honey and cold meats. You'll also receive “the right dose" gift box, containing a pinch of saffron and five original recipes.

The next part of your experience will take place in Castiglione del Lago, one of the most beautiful "borghi" in Italy. The historic center of town, located inside the medieval walls, is divided into two sections. The eastern half is completely occupied by the fifteenth century Ducal Palace, its service chambers and by the original castellated Fortress. Here, you'll have lunch in a typical restaurant on the shore of Lake Trasimeno, where fish is prepared according to both traditional and creative recipes. As well as lake fish, the restaurant offers typical Umbrian food and wood-fired oven pizzas.

After lunch, your day will continue on from Castiglione to Maggiore Island. After a short ferry ride to get to the island, you'll have a couple of hours to walking freely around the small vllage or rest in one of the beautiful free beaches. Maggiore Island is the second largest island on Lake Trasimeno and it's covered by olive trees, holm oaks and cypresses.
At the end of your day you get back on the ferry and head home.
