Stop At: Ao Thalane (departure of kayak tours), ถนนเขาทอง เขาทอง เมืองกระบี่ Krabi, Thailand

Your day begins with a transfer from your hotel in Krabi to Ao Thalane Pier where your guide awaits you. Cruise by speedboat to Phang Nga Bay, which covers over 154 square miles (400 km2) and is home to some 100 islands. The bay consists of filled rocky, limestone outcrops jutting high out of the emerald green sea, exotic sea caves and a thriving variety of wildlife.

Your first stop today is the incredible James Bond Island, which is the highlight of this tour. Without a doubt, the most famous landmark in Phang Nga Bay, thanks to its starring role in the James Bond film 'The Man with the Golden Gun.' Luckily it is under National Park protection and as a result no boats are allowed to go too close to the island. The best way to view James Bond Island is from the small beach on Khao Phing Kan.

Khao Phing Kan is a very high leaning rock that has some small caves inside. It’s pretty amazing and fun to check them all out. On its crowded eastern beach, there are stalls and stands selling knickknack souvenirs, mostly made from shells and woods.

Moving on, you cruise out to Lot Noi Cave at Thalu Island. Here, you transfer to a canoe (if you have booked the sea kayaking option) for an adventure paddling through the sea caves found among the mangrove forests.

The tour includes a Thai style lunch at the charming Panyee Island – a nearby Muslim fishing village. The locals live in stilt houses and you will have the opportunity to witness first hand the daily life of a community unchanged over time.

Finish your day by swimming in the crystal clear waters that surround the pristine Hong Island. Dry off by relaxing on a secluded beach before it’s time to be back on board for your speedboat journey back to Krabi.

Your hotel transfer will be waiting for you at the pier.

Picked us up 1/2 hour late. We had ID and not the mobile tickets so a huge hassle. The driver spoke no English. The hotel reception vouched for us and still he was reluctant to take us. My bad as I should have had my phone. We got in the van and driver drove like a madman. I believe he was trying to make up time. Many Discovery Tours were converging at one meeting point. It was mayhem! Got in a small run-down speedboat. No life preservers, no safety briefing. Driver spoke no English and guide spoke some English. No personalized service. There were10 of us and no introductions. There was water provided but no soft drinks as advertised. Felt very processed throughout the tour. James Bond Island site was packed with tourists and commercialized. After a couple of photos, it was time to kayak. Another joke of a tourist trap. Floating barges are the home base for these tour companies. This part was optional and had to be reserved ahead of time. If you didn't take the kayak option you got to sit on a bench on the barge to watch an army of kayaks merging to go under one natural rock arch, one at a time, for 45 minutes. Surprise. Each kayak had its own solo paddling guide with 2 passengers (at least they had life preservers). Next was lunch at authentic fishing village built over water. Although an interesting concept, bland food was served buffet-style in a restaurant-type hall dedicated to serving tourist groups. We were given the opportunity to explore the maze of the village only to find that it is actually a mall of vendors. Very disappointing. Next stop, Hong Island. Packed big time. Snorkeling was bad. The coral was all smashed up and its dust had fogged the water. Heartbreaking! At 3pm, other tour boats suddenly disappeared like magic and the place became absolutely beautiful. The best half hour of the day. It was finally time to go back. A short time later we enjoyed some fruit then the speedboat ran out of gas. Is this a nightmare? At first the guide said that were waiting for people from another boat. It would only be a few minutes. Strange. After 40 minutes of drifting, the Park Ranger boat showed up with gasoline. It was siphoned into the gas tank and off again. Unbelievable! Finally got back to the pier and they put out their tip jar. A day lost and money wasted.

The staff and guides were lovely and there was plenty of time to see the area. The boat was not the largest however I thought it was better to have a smaller team and I really enjoyed it.

This was a very fun tour! We were often the first to arrive at places so it was nice to be there before the huge crowd. I don't know if it's always like that or if we were lucky though. The crew was very sweet too! When we stopped in a bay, one of the guys took the time to take a photo of each and every person who wanted one at the front of the boat with the background, on your own cell! I ended up with 5-6 pictures, angled a little differently and it allowed me to choose the best! The food at lunch was good buffet style and so was the fruit given on board in the afternoon! For the cave part, we took the option with the kayak, which was more like an inflatable canoe. If you expect to paddle and explore, think again! Each boat has someone there paddling for you though my friend got to paddle on the way back so if you want to tip, don't forget to bring it with you before leaving the speed boat!
