Stop At: Philadelphia Urban Adventures, 229 Arch St, Philadelphia, PA 19106-1974

Start your 3.5-hour tour of the art, culture and food of South Philly on colorful South Street. Follow your guide through the Bella Vista neighborhood for a first glimpse of local artist Isaiah Zagar’s stunning mosaics.

Duration: 3 hours 30 minutes

Stop At: Italian Market, 9th Street from Wharton to Fitzwater Streets, Philadelphia, PA 19147

After a stop at a historical deli and bakery, continue on foot to the 9th Street Italian Market (aka South 9th Street Curb Market), considered to be America’s oldest open-air market. At this must-see attraction dating back to the 1880s, wander past an array of stores teeming with cheese, chocolate, spices and olive oils. With your knowledgeable guide, meet the butchers, bakers, spice merchants and produce vendors who provide food samples to whet your appetite. You’ll hear stories of the city's early immigrants and have a chance to recreate a famous scene from the 1970s blockbuster film Rocky.

Duration: 1 hour

Stop At: Philadelphia's Magic Gardens, 1020 South St, Philadelphia, PA 19147-1936

Then head to Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens, a unique gallery and community art center that showcases more mosaic art from Isaiah Zagar. Meander through the indoor gallery, and be wowed by the massive outdoor mosaic structure while you hear city stories from your guide.

Duration: 1 hour

Stop At: South Street, Philadelphia, PA 19147

Next up, catch a public bus for a ride down bustling South Street (weekdays) or iconic Pine Street (weekends), and then walk into historical Queen Village to soak up the charming atmosphere among its narrow streets. Finally, take a stroll past Fabric Row, America’s largest concentration of fabric shops, before finishing your tour back on South Street.

Great, informative tour of the South Street art scene and the 9th Street Italian Market. In addition to loads of information from our very knowledgeable tour guide Nicole, the price includes samples of various items - including cheeses, oils, vinegar, gelato, and fresh bread. Our tour ran a little long - which was fine - just don't book your next appointment too close to the stated finish time as you'll want to complete the tour at the Magic Garden. Definitely recommend!

Not enough history of the early Italian history. Enjoyed visiting the shops. Annette was very courteous and concerned about the heat. It was sometimes hard to understand because of the accent. Annette did not hurry us which was really nice.

Olive oil tasting, the oldest cheese store in Philly and tasting and an immersion into the Italian and Hispanic culture we had homemade tortillas also. The Magic Gardens were just fun. Our lead...she was a local that knew the ins-and-outs and she led a wonderful tour in knowledge of both the neighborhood and how it related to greater Philly culture. This was no doubt the best tour we took in Philly....including the Revolutionary War ones!

This was a small group tour my husband and I did in June, 2017. The guide was awesome--easy-going, helpful and very familiar with the area and its offerings. We tried several yummy snacks as we learned about the history of the South Philly and the market. The Magic Gardens were very unusual. Though not to my artistic tastes, you had to admire the ingenuity. The artist had done a lot to improve the South Philly neighborhood which also garnered my admiration. Highly recommend.

Our tour guide, Ben, was amazing! He was very friendly, funny, engaging and put all his efforts in to make sure we learned everything we could about the South of Philly. He was very knowledgeable and made sure we had a great time. He even purchased our group a dessert from the local bakery! Great experience

Tour was very good and worth the money Our guide Nina was informative and very pleasant The only negative is the parking in this area of Philly is crazy Only 2 hour parking and very scarce at that Had to leave the tour to feed the meter. A hint to longer parking would be helpful 3 1/2 hour tour and 2 hour parking is not a good thing
