Itinerary

Day 1: Phnom Penh - Kratie - Koh Trong

Stop At: Kratie Province, Kratie Province
Your adventure starts as we head northeast to the province and charming town of Kratie sitting on the mighty Mekong River. We will pass through rice fields, traditional villages and beautiful landscapes before we arrive at this little known but charming riverside town.

We then explore Kratie starting with a visit to Wat Roka Kandal, a beautifully restored 18th century pagoda in a style not found anywhere else in Cambodia. A must do, is to sample the favourite local snack Krolan, which is sticky rice mixed with coconut, beans and cooked in bamboo tubes. We then descend to the river and take a local boat to nearby Kampi where we hope to see the rare and endangered Irawaddi Dolphin. The area of Kampi on the Mekong River is a stunning natural environment and the sunset over the river can be spectacular.

Stop At: Koh Trong, Mekong River, Kratie Cambodia
We then take the twilight boat ride to Koh Trong which is a beautiful Mekong River island and take an overnight stay in this tranquil and timeless place,

Day 2: Koh Trong - Kratie - Mondulkiri

Stop At: Koh Trong, Mekong River, Kratie Cambodia
We take a leisurely breakfast and for those with some energy, bikes are available to ride the 9km path around the island to experience the farms, traditional island houses and stunning Mekong views. Alternatively you can take the journey in a traditional horse and cart. As part of our commitment to making this even more stunning we plant a tree as part of a community project. You can plant your own or leave it to us and the local community.

Stop At: Mondulkiri Province, Mondulkiri Province
We then take the short river crossing and continue our journey today to Mondulkiri and the landscapes transform as you head into the hills and pass through stunning jungle valleys and cross mountain streams. As we move closer towards the provincial capital of Sen Mororom we will visit the stunning Sen Mororom Waterfall for a chance to swim and relax.

We will then ensure you can check in and get refreshed at your chosen accommodation before we continue our exploration. Your guide will accompany you to experience and gain an understanding of the unique lifestyle of the ethnic minority people Phnong, at Putang village. We end this day at Phnom Dos Kromom (Maiden breast hills) to take in the stunning views of Mondulkiri and stay on to watch the sunset if you choose.

Day 3: Mondulkiri - Mondulkiri Project

Stop At: Mondulkiri Province, Mondulkiri Province
Make sure you have a good breakfast as today you visit the Mondulkiri Project n which is a community based Elephant rescue and sanctuary project in a protected jungle valley.

It is a 20 minute walk down into the stunning jungle floor and in the wet season it can be muddy so guests are advised to take care. After an introduction at the community centre you will meet and interact with a herd of elephants which have been rescued by the Project.

Get to know more about their history, character, behaviour, body language and relationship with the Mahout family who are their protectors and keepers. Feed them their favourite snack bananas, follow and observe these majestic creatures as the move through the jungle eating bamboo, grass and plants.

At noon, the elephants and you will enjoy a leisurely lunch and time to relax. Your guide will then take you to explore the jungle valley with many species of birds and other wildlife. Then we re-join the elephants to swim with and wash them which helps keep their skin clean and healthy. After saying goodbye to the elephants we walk back out of the jungle to our starting point for the short drive back to Sen Monorom taking in the hills surrounding the town and an amazing panoramic view of the jungle forests or as thelocals call them Sea Forests.

We head to Bou Sraa Waterfall which is considered one of the most stunning waterfalls in all of Cambodia. With two drops and a number of beautiful rock pools this is a great place to swim and relax. Later in the afternoon we will explore the town of Sen Monorom itself, visiting the surrounding jungle forests or “Sea Forests” and climb the hill to the local pagoda and enjoy the panoramic views.

Day 4: Mondulkiri - Phnom Penh

Stop At: Mondulkiri Province, Mondulkiri Province
Following breakfast and dependent on your departing flight we can take in more of this stunning province before it is time to head back to Phnom Penh. Along the way take the time to sample the local roadside snacks and explore one the traditional local villages you will pass through.

We will ensure your airport transfer goes smoothly or connect you with the next leg of your great Cambodian adventure,
