Itinerary

Day 1: Phnom Penh - Tompor Community Protected Area - Base Camp 1

Pass By: Mt. Tompor, Phnom Samkoh Wildlife Sanctuary, Pursat 15000 Cambodia

Leaving at 6 am from Phnom Penh on the National Road 5 toward Pursat Province, we then have our breakfast at Oudong around 7:30 am before continuing our way to the Tompor Village Protected Area Community. Spending 4 more hours on the road where we will have our lunch at Chen Yum and then spend another 30 minutes before arriving at the community. Upon arriving at the Community, we will be greeted by the Community Leaders, community members, villagers and ranger and then we will prepare ourselves before our first trekking to Base Camp 1.

At 1:30 pm, we then begin walking for 3km passing through villages, rice fields, and farm toward the foothill of Mt. Tompor. Spending around 1h on foot, we will pass by a small stream and then we reach the foothill named Area 1 of Mt. Tompor at 2:30 pm. We will spend 1h trekking from Area 1 to Area 2 passing through the Bamboo forest with extreme slope and small rocks which can cause a small accident if not being careful enough. Once we reach Area 2, you will see the spectacular view of the small mountain range in front of your eyes where we spend some time taking a rest and taking some photographs before continuing our way up to Base Camp 1. Trekking on the slope for another 500m, we then reach our Basecamp 1 at where we will spend our first night at Mt. Tompor. What we see at Base Camp 1 is the mountainside and small mountain ranges in front of our eyes, also the waterfall from afar, we will spend time taking photos and enjoy the view before we begin preparing for our next activities. We then help out the community to will help out with the dinner preparation and cooking and set up the hammock. At around 7 pm, we will gather for dinner and story sharing with our community teams, brief about tomorrow's activities and then we will spend the rest of the night, watching the night sky getting to know each other and end our first night accordingly. Please noted that there is no water at Base Camp 1 but our team will prepare some refill water for everyone.

Day 2: Base Camp 1 - Base Camp 2 - Mt. Tompor Peak

Waking early in the morning to catch the glimpse of sunrise at Base Camp 1 while enjoying a hot cup of instant coffee with the morning breeze as the beginning of the second day. While the villagers preparing the breakfast, we then preparing packing before our next trekking to Base Camp 2. Once we are done with breakfast, we will begin our trekking journey at 7 am from Base Camp 1 passing through pine forest, we then reach another breathtaking view of Area 3 where we see the view of the mountain of Base Camp 1 from afar, with some rest, we then continue trekking uphill for another 1h passing several small mountains until we reach the Area 4 where we will trek into the dense forest of Mt. Tompor for 700m and then we arrive at Base Camp 2 lying deep in the middle of the forest. We then take some rest and have our lunch at 11 pm, and prepare our light packing for our next trekking to the top of Mt. Tompor. Since we will spend our second night at the Base Camp 2, our packing should be lighter and we need to bring with some snack, jacket or raincoat in case of raining and with the cold weather of the top of Mt. Tompor, the jacket is a must bring for this next journey.

[Base Camp 2 - Mt. Tompor Peak]

Leaving at 1 pm, we will trek through the forest where it is still an unexplored area so it is expected that you will encounter a lot of Teak/ទៀក, what is known to be “land leech”, which we recommend our travelers to apply it on before leaving Base Camp 2. Our whole trekking journey will take around 3 hours, passing through 6 small streams and several small mountains and we will reach the Area 5, upon reaching that open space, it means we are about to reach the top of Mt. Tompor now. Trekking for another uphill slope, we are now on the top of Mt. Tompor with the sign put up by our Der Prey team, supported by the government. One noticeable thing we will experience is the weather differences of the mountain top, the weather can be unbearable cool, yet, refreshing for those who have been in the hot weather all along; we will spend some time taking photos and then leave at 4:30 pm.

Once we are done, we then trek back to Base Camp 2 where we will arrive at 6 pm the latest, and then we will take some rest and then set up our hammock with the shed built by our team. Then we will gather around then having dinner together and everyone can have a bath with Base Camp 2 streams from the waterfall and then we will spend our second night together in the forest of Mt. Tompor.

Day 3: Base Camp 2 - Tompor Community Protected Area - Phnom Penh

[Base Camp 2 - Area 1]

Having an extreme trek the day before, we then can rest a little more on the third day of our Mt. Tompor Adventure. Having breakfast at 7 am, and then we prepare for our descend trek down from the mountain. Spending 4 hours trekking back down from Mt. Tompor, we will have our lunch at Area 1 where we can take bath with the river stream of the community.

After having lunch and resting at Area 1, we then continue our last walk back to our community, then we say goodbye to the community for spending these 3 days and 2 nights, and travel back to Phnom Penh. We will arrive at our meet up point at 9 pm.
