About this activity
Beginning in the morning, depart on a one-of-a-kind city tour: a Khmer architecture tour focusing on Cambodian architecture from the late 1950s to 1960s - a vibrant time both culturally and politically. Recently recognized as an important artistic milestone in Cambodian culture, the then en vogue ‘New Khmer Architecture’ integrated international style with local tradition, materials and climate. Traveling by local ‘remok’ (tuk tuk), discover Cambodia’s turbulent past from a different perspective of the city’s eclectic blend of buildings and structures.

Lunch will be taken at one of the most stylish and unique restaurants in Phnom Penh; Chinese House. The beautifully preserved Chinese merchant’s house combines old world Eastern romanticism with a thoroughly contemporary approach to art, music, cocktails and food.

After the Khmer Rouge, Phnom Penh has slowly rebuilt its artistic spirit, drawing from a new sense of optimism brought on by Cambodia’s rapidly changing society. The contemporary art scene in Phnom Penh is now definitely pulling away from the ever-popular traditional mainstream and expressing its raw creativity. This afternoon, visit one of the local contemporary art galleries and have a chance to meet the artists and discuss Phnom Penh’s art scene over a glass of wine.

Continue the journey to St. 93 in the north of the city, on the shores of the now-dry Boeung Kak Lake, once a thriving backpacker district, bustling with local businesses and guest houses. Since the lake was drained to make way for future development, all but a few of the bars and guesthouses disappeared. Fortunately, the local community has, with the help of a couple of French expats, turned the area into an ‘art village’, with incredible street art, local bistros, funky bars and boutique shops.

End the day with a sunset cocktail at an incredible rooftop bar with astonishing views of the capital city.
