About this activity
Day 1

6 am: Depart Phoenix in your own vehicle.

8 am: Pass thru Globe, AZ heading north on Hwy 60. Last stop for gas, food and water.

9 am: Arrive at our riverside office. Meet the pride of our company, the guides! Pack personal belongings in dry bags for the gear raft.

10 am: Safety orientation, paddle instructions and launching of the rafts!

12 pm: Hot lunch at our base camp.

1 pm: Raft the longest and biggest rapids of the day while entering the Sonoran desert proper indicated by the majestic saguaro cactus. Float pass the Salt Banks, sacred to the Apache.

3 pm: Enter the stunning 1.4 billion year old ruin granite gorge. The river corridor transforms from Grand Canyon scale to an intimate, rounded and improbably balanced white rock canyon.

5 pm: Pull ashore at a beautiful river side camp in the Gleason Flats area. Pitch tents, take a short hike, build a fire and have hors d'oeuvres.

6 pm: Dinner is served!

7 pm: Free time to do as you like: read, watch the desert stars, tell stories around the fire.

Day 2:

7 am: Coffee and breakfast drinks served with the rising sun.

8 am: A hot delicious breakfast cooked up by your guides.

9 am: Take down camp and start packing the rafts.

10 am: Get on the water and head for the first Class IV Rapid, Black Rock! Float through pools surrounded by Teddy Bear Cholla Cactus and run Class III+ rapids such as Devil's Pendejo, Upper and Lower Coral, the Maze and Pinball.

12 pm: Stop for a deli style lunch around Hess or Yankee Joe Canyon.

1 pm: Get back on the water and get ready for the big rapids! There is no mistaking where we are when we enter Jump Off Canyon and run Quartzite Falls and Cork Screw Rapids.

5 pm: This very full day or rafting ends near Cherry Creek Butte which is topped with 800 year old Salado Indian fortifications.

6 pm: Dinner is served.

7 pm: Now you probably have some river tails to tell yourself!

Day 3:

7 am: Coffee and breakfast drinks served with the rising sun.

8 am: A hot delicious breakfast cooked up by your guides.

9 am: Take down camp and start packing the rafts.

10 am: We get back on the river and float past a volcanic tuft formation that has been home to a nesting pair of Desert Bald Eagles and is a designated quite zone often rewarded with a sighting.

12 pm: Lunch at Coon Creek, a wonderful Cottonwood shade tree area as the heat is getting turned up now that we have descended some 1,500 feet since we started.

2 pm: End of the trip at the Hwy 288 bridge at the top of Roosevelt Lake. If you came from the Phoenix area, we have shuttled your car to this point to save you four hours of driving back to the head of the canyon. Reenter civilization!
